How to obtain the UMYU Postgraduate Admission Form 2019/2020 : Nigerian Education

The Umaru Musa Yar'adua University Postgraduate School (UMYU) is now offering application forms for admission to its various postgraduate programs for the 2019/2020 academic session. Find out about the courses, requirements, duration and application modalities UMYU-graduate course below.

Applications will be submitted from appropriately qualified candidates for admission to the following full-time postgraduate diploma, masters and doctoral programs from Umaru Musa Yar'adua University, Katsina, for the academic session 2019/2020.

Admission Requirements and Duration for UMYU Postgraduates.

A. Post-diploma

For admission to the post-graduate diploma qualify:

  1. Graduates of recognized universities;
  2. Holder of a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum value for a lower credit card or equivalent in relevant areas;
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate with three years of relevant postgraduate experience;
  4. Applicants with qualifications other than those mentioned above that are acceptable to the Research Training Group and the University Senate.
  5. Candidates with a third-grade degree in non-education may be considered after three years of relevant postgraduate experience. Those in education may be considered in their field of expertise;
  6. All candidates will be selected.

B. Master's degree

For the Master's degree programs: –

  1. Graduates from accredited universities who have received the recognized undergraduate degree with at least a second-rate award or equivalent. Candidates with a lower second-degree degree and additional qualification for a post-graduate diploma at the credit-pass level from a recognized institution will have more benefits.
  2. Applicants with qualifications other than the above, which are recognized by the University Senate.

The following are eligible for admission to the Professional Masters Degree:

  1. Graduates of recognized universities who have received the recognized bachelor's degree in a relevant subject with at least second-rate or equivalent honors.
  2. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in third grade who have at least five years of relevant work experience.
  3. Candidates who hold a higher national diploma (HND) with at least one credit card and at least one credit pass for a postgraduate diploma from a recognized institution;
  4. Applicants with qualifications other than the above, which are recognized by the University Senate.


For admission to the Doctor of Philosophy qualify:

  1. Graduates from recognized universities who have acquired a Master's degree with CGPA of 3.50 and above appropriate for the proposed fields of study;
  2. Graduates of recognized universities who have earned a Master of Philosophy with CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale in order to earn a doctorate in the fields suitable for the proposed fields of study;
  3. In addition to (i) – (ii) above, a candidate must have at least a bachelor's degree in the lower division of the second grade;
  4. Applicants with qualifications other than those listed above who are acceptable to the Board of the Postgraduate School and the University Senate;
  5. The candidate must indicate the proposed research area and provide a summary of at least 500 words of the proposed research topic.

Enrollment Requirements:

In addition to A, B, C and D, a candidate must meet the university's enrollment requirements; H. Five Credit Passes at Level O, including English and Math.

  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGDE / PGDRD) – 2 to 4 semesters
  • Masters in Resource Development (MRD) 2 to 4 semesters
  • M.A./M.Ed./M.Sc./M.Sc. (Ed.) – 4 to 6 semesters
  • PhD – 6 to 10 semesters

All candidates must require their existing institutions to forward either a copy or a printed copy of their academic credentials, along with Form B, to the postgraduate secretarial school of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University in Katsina.
