A tradition of Christmas lighting for over 30 years Tourism

Peteyville, Christmas lights

This is the 32nd year in which Pete Basala has brought joy to the people of northwest Indiana.Peteyville"Lighting a portion of the block in its Hessville district in Hammond from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve.

Several dinghies are part of the Peteyville Holiday Lights display, which is up to 25 meters high.

The house at 3033 Crane Place and the courtyards of several neighbors are filled with dinghies, Christmas lights, figurines and homemade props, including a merry-go-round and a Ferris wheel. The display has grown so big that it has a separate power supply from NIPSCO to power all the decorations.

The house of Basala is just a few blocks from the home of Jean Shepherd, who authored the book that became the movie classic, "A Christmas Story." In the film, Ralphie lives in the fictional town of Hohman, which is actually one of the most well-known main streets of the city.

Every year something new emerges, often a dinghy larger than the last one. Under the dinghies is a 26-foot reindeer named Randy and several other soldiers, Santa Clauses and other characters in the 12-20 foot area.

Basala has added a couple of home-made photo sessions where families can take a souvenir photo when they visit us. He also has his own radio station that you can check in the neighborhood to hear about the story of Peteyville and a song recorded by an artist nominated by Emmy.

Peteyville is lit every night from 17.00 clock. – Depending on the weather from 22.00 clock, from Thanksgiving until the end of the year. For more information and weather information, visit Peteyville page on Facebook,
