HHave you ever made a mission trip to a third world country? If so, you have probably fed people. In Third World countries, people crave basic needs like food and water. When you meet people’s needs, you become aware of them. This is why missionaries often reach people for Christ by providing food or medical help.
In our First World culture, the basic needs of most people are already met. What people desire depends more on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: love and belonging. Family First’s mission is to reach people by meeting those needs, by teaching education and relational truth that works. But according to the Pew Institute, many millennials don’t think they need God.
Pew’s study shows that 35 percent of millennials are “none”. This means that 35 percent of the people born between 1981 and 1996 would tick the box next to “none” on a list of religious affiliations. The same study found that most non-millennials pray rarely or not at all. Forty-two percent of those who pray rarely or not at all do not believe in God at all.
We want to reach the nons. If we want to reach the nons, we have to meet their needs. But what do you need?
Nobody needs influence.
The Millennial Nones are currently between 24 and 39 years old. Their biological clocks tell them that it is time to find “the one” and have children. For many, a story of broken family relationships has embarrassed them about how they can have their own relationships. They long for something better. You can model it for her. By loving your family well, you are introducing others to a kind of family life that many have never experienced. Millennial Nones who you testify in your marriage and care about your children are better equipped to be parents who are committed to their own.
Nobody needs support.
No one who feels supported by the truth you offer is more likely to have an open mind for the source of that truth – God. We reach the nons and others how to love well. We carry what you need. In our posts on All pro dad and I momWe introduce the truth into stories and applications to which they can refer, God’s principles for the family in today’s parables. Principles that work. Principles that change and deepen their relationships and open their hearts to a belief that they did not consider important.
Nobody needs the family first.
Nobody needs what you read on All Pro Dad and iMOM every day. By helping them in their relationships, we reach a population that is not open to the Church and does not understand the principles of Christianity. If we satisfy your desire, pay attention to it. And what’s next – an introduction to God, the source of all truth – can really change your life.
What can you do this week to influence or support a millennial none?
