Here is a basket crocheted with plastic yarn for the project material. I used that Lily original basket pattern made of cotton for this recycled bag project. I chained 28 with plastic yarn to start the smaller basket version of this pattern with a K (6.5) crochet hook.
After the general pattern design, I crocheted each side up to a width of about 6 inches before working the fold line on each side while working only in the back loops (BLO). For the base I chained 19 with the plastic bag yarn and even worked 18 stitches for 17 rows. My base was slightly wider than the sides, but it worked just right to put the bottom in the basket. With the wrong sides together, I then crocheted a single crochet work from the outside through both thicknesses evenly along the sides, with the corners aligned with each other to attach the base to the basket.
Here is a picture of the bottom of my crocheted basket.
When I finished, I folded the top of the basket about 5 cm high. This recycled craft project was used approximately 20 retail plastic bags cut 1 inch wide to completion.
Total finished basket size as shown is a basket 6.5 inches high and 5 inches wide square.
