The Million Fathers March (MFM) gives men the opportunity to get involved in their children’s educational lives throughout the school year. Since the beginning of the march in 2004, fathers and other significant male caregivers in the United States and around the world have gathered to accompany their children on their first or certain day of the new school year. Each annual MFM marks the beginning of a year’s commitment by men to their children’s educational success.
Organizations and schools are encouraged to participate in activities that support the Real Dads Read (RDR) theme. Fathers, uncles, trainers, mentors, clergymen and men’s groups are encouraged to participate in literacy activities for the day. Currently, RDR is FI’s flagship program, which includes over 80 barber shop libraries and schools in Metro Atlanta and Columbus, GA, and will be expanded nationally in 2020.
