A machine that weighs several thousand pounds acts like a brick in the wind and is hardly ideal for performance and efficiency.

That's why Porsche has been working to ensure that 911 of the 992 generation cuts off the wind as much as possible, which the automaker has explained in a new video.

Spectators begin the aerodynamic journey in the wind tunnel. Here's the basics of the aero tricks of the 2020 Porsche 911. It begins with tailor-made cooling features for less on-road drag, and the new vehicle has improved intercooling. When the driver sets in motion, things come alive.

At 44 km / h, the front louvers are completely closed to reduce air resistance. From 55 km / h, the rear spoiler changes to eco mode to further reduce the resistance of the 911. At 105 miles per hour, the front and rear spoilers switch to a power mode. The flaps are wide open to direct air, and the rear spoiler is reconfigured to increase vehicle dynamics.

Next we come to the aerodynamic lift. With the PASM sports suspension, the 911 can be lowered by 0.4 inches. Porsche said that this feature helped shorten the lap times at the Nürburgring four seconds. On the road, a special "wet" mode changes the aero behavior and optimizes the functions of the rear spoiler. When braking the rear spoiler also offers a compressed air brake and a maximum output on the rear axle.

Buyers will find that all improved aero functions work in combination with a more powerful engine. The 2020 911 Carrera S and 4S, the only models of the 991 generation to date, feature a turbocharger Flat-6, which now generates 443 horsepower and 390 pound-foot of torque. That's 23 hp and 22 lb-feet over the previous generation. Watch the video above.
