Four Audi PHEVs with 14.1 kWh batteries and WLTP EV range of more than 40 km

Audi revealed more details about his new plug-in hybrid models, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2019. There will be a total of four available, all available later this year:

  • Audi Q5 TFSI e (two versions – comfort and performance)
  • Audi A6 TFSI e (two versions – comfort and performance)
  • Audi A7 Sportback TFSI e (two versions – comfort performance)
  • Audi A8 TFSI e

All new plug-in hybrids must be signed by "TFSI e" as the "E-tron" Badge is reserved for all-electric models. New PHEVs receive turbocharged gasoline engines with direct injection, which work together with an integrated in the transmission electric motor. The A8 is the only four-wheel drive.

The sporty performance variants of Q5, A6, A7 receive:

  • standard an S-Line exterior package
  • a more balanced suspension
  • Drive structure with higher boost power of the electric motor for more dynamic handling.
  • sporty accents in the interior
  • In addition, the A6 and A7 are obtained
    • a black styling package with darkened panels
    • Brake calipers painted red
    • and window glazing in the rear compartment.

The batteries in the new plug-in hybrids have a capacity of 14.1 kWh for more than 40 km (25 miles) expected WLTP fully electric range. The exact number differs depending on the model. Batteries are installed under the boot floor, which may potentially affect boot capacity.

The A6 TFSI e, the A7 Sportback TFSI e and the A8 TFSI e will have 104 pouch cells, while the Q5 TFSI will receive prismatic cells (packing capacity will remain the same).

The regenerative braking power will be up to 80 kW.

"The lithium-ion battery for A6, A7 and A8 consists of 104 pouch cells, which are grouped into eight modules. It stores 14.1 kWh of energy at a voltage of 385 V. The lithium-ion battery in the Q5 consists of prismatic cells and has the same capacity. In any case, the cooling circuit of the battery is integrated into the low-temperature circuit that supplies the electric motor and the power electronics. The power electronics convert the direct current of the high voltage battery into a three phase current for the electric motor; In recovery, it does the opposite. The standard heat pump ensures efficient vehicle air conditioning and, with the waste heat generated in the vehicle, can generate up to 3 kW of heat energy from 1 kW of electrical energy. "

Positive news is that all models are equipped with a standard heat pump, which can deliver up to 3 kW of heat with only 1 kW of electricity.

  • Direct injection, which works with an electric motor (PMSM), which is integrated into the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission
  • all wheel drive
  • 7.2 kW On-board charger for about Charge for 2 hours

Q5 TFSI and specifications:

  • 14.1 kWh Battery liquid-cooled (prismatic cells grouped into eight modules)
  • 385 V system voltage
  • WLTP range of more than 40 km (25 miles)
  • Direct injection, which works with an electric motor (PMSM), which is integrated into the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission
  • 7.2 kW On-board charger for about Charge for 2 hours

Efficient and powerful: the new plug-in hybrid models Audi Q5, A6, A7 and A8

  • Audi A8, A7 Sportback, A6 and Q5 as a plug-in hybrid with a powerful electric motor, high battery capacity and new drive strategy
  • An electric range of more than 40 km according to WLTP
  • Convenient and networked charging with the myAudi app

In pure electric mode, which is not only locally emission-free, but also efficient and sporty, Audi is consistently pursuing the electrification strategy with its comprehensive plug-in hybrid offensive. Audi presents the hybrid variants of the A8, A7 Sportback, A6 and Q5 models with an electric range of more than 40 kilometers in the WLTP cycle at the Geneva Motor Show. Depending on the model series, the customer can choose between a comfort variant and a sporty designed performance variant due to different performance levels. The new plug-in hybrid models will be ordered during 2019.
