If you're sharing memes and want to chat with friends on Instagram, then this is something new for you. After some research by an app researcher, Instagram internally tests its direct message function on the Web.
For those who look at Instagram's similar barebones web interface, there's little you can do other than scroll through your feed, check notifications, or search for something specific. There is still no way to upload photos or share a story.

While Instagram has in the past stated that it is "not intended to enable users to upload photos or stories from the desktop" to do so, other features will slowly but surely reach the web interface. Direct messages are one such feature that will be added to the interface soon.

The web interface for DMs discovered on Twitter by Jane Manchun Wong is a blessing for anyone using an iPad. Instagram has no iPad app, which is why the web interface is the only fallback.
In-house testing of the Instagram feature on the Internet also occurs as Facebook is to merge WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram messaging threads. This is useful for those who choose Instagram Direct and therefore need a way to access it outside the official Instagram app.
There is no official word as to when the web user direct messaging feature will be introduced. In view of the fact that Instagram has deactivated the feature remotely, this indicates that the feature is nearing an announcement soon.
