Daytona ends 24 hours under the conditions of the red flag, WTR Cadillac wins -Cars Automobiles

The Cadillac DPi-V.R teams have won Daytona's final three 24-hour races in a row as Fernando Alonso drove Konica Minolta's black and blue Wayne Taylor Racing car two hours before the end of the race. For safety reasons, the stewards finally threw the red flag for the second time and let the interruption continue until the end of the race.

Alonso's Cadillac No. 10, Jordan Taylor, Renger van der Zande and Kamui Kobayashi were in the lucky position number one when the red flag fell, but it was a real thank you to all four who made the car The Hunt after the 20 hours of the race that have happened. The mega-battles, in particular Alonso against Acura Helio Castroneves and Kobayashi with apparently all had.

The competition in the DPi category was tough, but Cadillac again had the measure of the field. The Mazdas were fast but too fragile to reach the finish. The lonely Nissan just could not keep it on the island. The two Acuras were in contention for all the races, but could not quite reach the caddies in terms of fuel consumption.

This is Jordan Taylor's second victory in his father's team after winning in 2017. Van der Zande, Kobayashi and Alonso scored their first combined Daytona 24 win. Alonso has now won the Monaco Grand Prix, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona. He travels to Indianapolis this May for another run in the Indy 500.

The # 18 Oreca of Dragonspeed pilots Pastor Maldonado, Roberto Gonzalez, Ryan Cullen and Sebastian Saavedra ensured victory in the four-car class LMP2. It was pretty obvious that Dragonspeed would win the race as they achieved a double-digit lap to the middle of the race before the other two LMP2 teams.

From then on, it was only a matter of which Dragonspeed car would make it to the end. The # 81 was a leader, but crashed and lost many laps. The # 18 crashed a few times, but was never bad enough to get a long handle on the car. The team won the race with 4 laps lead.

The BMW # 25 worked hard, like any other team, to be in the right place at the right time. They were just ahead when the red flag came out. With the drivers Connor De Phillippi, Philipp Eng, Colton Herta and Augusto Farfus You are probably very happy that the race has never again raced under the green flag conditions. They got a Rolex watch from the deal.

It is interesting to note that Augusto Farfus was not selected for this trip until Tom Blomqvist had visa issues. The team at the last minute helped them get the trophy home. What a nice story.

While the BMWs never looked really fast, they avoided most of the trouble of the race. There were Porsches who had contact with the wall with Ford GTs and Corvettes. Meanwhile, the Big M8 just drove on, holding on to annoyance. That's really what you need to do to win in Daytona.

I've seen most of the race and I'm not sure how the Lamborghini # 11 won this race. This car just was not much in the mix and never really got time on TV for discussion. Like the BMW above, it was just a smooth run. There was a small collision with another Lamborghini, but apparently the team recovered well enough to get back to the top.

There were six GTD cars in the main round for the finish of the race, including two Audis, two Lexus and the # 86 Acura, so it was rightfully everyone's game. It's not easy to stay in the lead for 22 hours, and the Grasser team from Rolf Ineichen, Mirko Bortolotti, Christian Engelhart and Rik Breukers won just that.

Interestingly enough, the race was marked in red and the race stewards decided to bring the race back to green. Many other GTD rivals crashed in this segment. Above all, the Montaplast Audi turned from the lead of the race into the muddy grass between tri-oval and pit lane. As a result of this turn, this Audi finished second. Heartbreaking stuff.

Congratulations to the teams that have won. It's a bit of a bummer to finish such a cracking race like this, but that's the life of a long-distance runner.
