"So far, the annual production capacity is 20,000 vehicles," said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume the business magazine Wirtschaftswoche in an interview. "However, due to the positive response, we will adjust this number upwards."

Demand is not the only reason why Porsche needs to increase Zuffenhausen's production capacity. Recently, the automaker got the go-ahead to put the Mission E Cross Turismo Concept into operation – a high-end wagon version of the Taycan with more ground clearance and additional cargo capacity.

The Cross Turismo is referred to as the "first variant" of the Porsche Taycan series, so that probably more model variants are on the way. An alleged Taycan variant is a Targa model with removable roof. It is supposed to be built in the same factory in Zuffenhausen as the Taycan sedan and the Cross Turismo. It is said that Porsche planned a plan electric SUV also, which should arrive in the next four years.

Porsche Taycan's production is expected to produce more than 600 horsepower from two electric motors that will power it from 0-60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. Porsche has also developed a 800V fast charging system for the vehicle, which is said to be capable of charging the 96 kWh lithium-ion battery to approximately 250 miles in 15 minutes.

Audi is also working on its own electric four-door, which will use the Taycan's electrical platform and other components, such as its lithium-ion batteries with 96 kWh electric motors. The electric Audi sedan was made by the E-Tron GT concept shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2018 last week.
