Most people would not like to be in Mary Barra's shoes these days. Still, it's better to be one of about 14,000 GM workers being released.

One week after the announcement huge job cuts and factory closures The angry US President Donald Trump, CEO of GM, met with members of the Ohio and Maryland Congress on December 5th.

While the executives described these meetings on Capitol Hill as "very constructive," GM's plans to streamline North American business are expected to continue.

"I share their concern about the impact that the measures we announced last week will affect our employees, their families and the communities," said Mary Barra in a statement. "These were very difficult decisions – decisions that I personally make," she added.

Nevertheless, Barra had some encouraging things to say to the employees of the GM plants to be decommissioned in 2019. "I have informed members that many hourly employees of the affected US plants have the opportunity to work in other US GM plants. We are committed to working with them to minimize the impact on communities." said the executive.

However, she did not say which works the workers could move to. As for workers who are affected by the restructuringSaid Barra, "They are being offered outplacement services to help them transition to new jobs."

These vague promises did not convince Congressmen, particularly Ohio senators and other lawmakers. They want GM to shift the company's production Chevy blazer from 2019 from Mexico to Lordstown Assembly or start there with the construction of electric vehicles.

However in one short interview With Reuters Following the Washington meeting, Barra said it was "very expensive" to relocate blazer production from Mexico. While the leader promised to be "open" about the future of Ohio plantShe stressed that GM has overcapacity in the United States.

GM CEO is expected to meet with members of the congress from Michigan on December 6.
