The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zamfara State Command says that fatal traffic accidents in the state have dropped 54 percent.

In an interview with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Gusau on Tuesday, FRSC sector commander James Malomo said so.

Malomo said the state had 58 deaths from traffic accidents in 2018, compared to 126 in 2017.

He said that the percentage decline in mortality was 54%, calling the reduction "remarkable achievement".

He attributed the development to the advocacy of command and to campaigns aimed at raising the awareness of motorists and other road users of the dangers of non-compliance with traffic safety culture.

In his opinion, the command in this exercise works with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO).

He said that the command, through its influence in their respective communities, also encouraged the cooperation and support of traditional and religious leaders.

He promised that command would not give in to maintain or surpass the feat in the years to come.
