Six dead, 38 rescued from collapsed buildings in rivers -Nigerian

Six people were found dead while 38 people were rescued alive from the rubble of the building, which collapsed in a seven-story private building on Woji Street New GRA in Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers.

The seven-story building on Woji Street collapsed on Friday.

On Sunday, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike ordered the Attorney General to set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the distant and immediate causes of the collapse.

He noted that the incident was a sad incident and said, "I feel so tormented that we have to face this kind of disaster now, and I feel the daily bread of the families who have lost their loved ones Government will do everything to give them the necessary support.

"I have directed the Attorney General of the State of Rivers to ensure that all legal action is taken to do what is right under the law."

The governor ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of the collapsed building and stated that the provincial government would bring all the guilty to the accounting department.

"Whoever has approved this structure and those involved in the construction will be in the law, and the government will take all necessary steps to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, who is involved, the owner or the contractor or the civil servants, you will be faced with the full weight of the law, "he said.

He led senior government officials to visit the site of the collapsed building on Sunday, pointing out that all Rivers State Government officials who have failed to fulfill their duties are being sanctioned.

He said, "The government will take steps to acquire this property, we can not allow this illegality, and if you look at the overall plan of this area, a seven-story building is not allowed here."

Governor Wike praised construction companies, security agencies, and non-governmental organizations for working with the Rivers State Government to carry out rescue operations at the scene of the collapse.
