On Saturday morning, a dead man was killed from the rubble of a seven-story building after collapsing on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Twenty-two people were also rescued, one of whom was severely injured with an amputated hand. Rescue operations were carried out by emergency services and security agencies overnight. The rescue workers believe that more bodies are buried under the rubble.

Efforts are currently being made to remove the debris, as evidently there are voices under the collapsed building.

The building is located on Woji Street in Port Harcourt G.R.A. was apparently under construction when it collapsed on Friday around 16:30 clock. About 60 people – mainly construction workers – worked on it when it collapsed.

One of the construction workers told reporters that he had just left the building when he heard a loud bang and turned to find out what had happened. He explained that at the time of the incident many workers were in the building, as they are usually paid for the week on Fridays.
