Lithium batteries are not toys.

Rich Benoit of Rich Rebuilds Fame had started a fantastic new project with his friend Lee. They had found a kind of princess parade car and decided to switch it to battery power. specifically, Tesla Battery power Daisy, called Daisy, is now finally on hold. The reason for this, as you may have guessed in the above video, is that the cells that were supposed to give him life have instead brought a burning death. Fortunately nobody got hurt and the whole episode was captured by several cameras.

The footage highlights the danger of reusing lithium batteries. In this case they were not connected to a management system and something triggered a thermal runaway. Although we have not yet received a full autopsy, this kind of "impressive" fireworks is usually triggered by overcharging or physically damaging cells, resulting in a short circuit.

A total of six fire extinguishers were reportedly used to curb firefighting before the fire department arrived. As you can see, cells jumped out of the modules and descended into the sky, creating a danger zone that went far beyond the Princess Mobile. We can only hope that the dramatic material is a warning to those who would like to try similar projects without a thorough knowledge of the proper handling of lithium batteries.

To see how this whole unfortunate episode started, we've added (see below) an earlier episode with the unique vehicle. Although obviously worrisome, the situation has not diminished Benoit's enthusiasm for future projects. He is currently trying to open his own garage to continue his scrapped Tesla revival work.
