Presidency reacts when Atiku service chiefs sentenced to President Buhari

President Buari's senior special assistant to media and public relations, Shehu Garba, has responded to the criticisms made by the chiefs of staff who participated in the President's election campaign on Sunday, November 18, in the Presidential Villa.

Chiefs of staff present at the event were Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of the Defense Staff, Abubakar Sadiq, Chief of the Air Staff, and Ibok-Ete Ibas, Chief of the Naval Staff.

Atiku Campaign Organization spokesman Segun Sowunmi said in an interview with Punch that the presence of chiefs of staff shows that Buhari, as commander-in-chief, has compromised the heads of the military authorities.

"The problem with security authorities is that they did not define exactly who they should be loyal to. The concern is that the Commander-in-Chief has some sort of relationship with them, but if they raise that relationship to a point where they start attending political events, when the campaign of a political party begins, everyone must be scared. This is because this involves a very dangerous development, namely that they have now become so involved in politics that they are now cheerleaders of another political party.

"I hope that if we want to present our own political document in a public forum, and if we invite them, they would be sensible enough to participate because they are now attending political events. We would like to advise them to be excluded from politics so that the opposition can feel secure. I am quite disappointed with President Buhari, who has put the military on such a compromise, and we call on the international community to take note of this, "he said

Garba Shehu responded to Sowunmi's comment and said that the chiefs of staff had considered the event unpolitical and had even been left out before the arrival of President Buhari for the statement. Read the statement

"They had been wrong in assuming that this was an apolitical event to portray the achievements of the administration in whose success they are involved. As soon as they sat as the Secretary of Defense, retired Brigadier General. Mansur Dan-Ali asks her to leave, as this was a political rally. They left the company before the President's arrival to start the event. The excitement about it is therefore absolutely superfluous. "
