Dr. Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has called the first international flight to Asaba International Airport significant, as he brought back the Super Eagles from South Africa after qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Governor Okowa spoke on Sunday morning when he received the Super Eagles on arrival at Asaba International Airport following his qualifier for AFCON with South African football club Bafana Bafana.

Governor Okova, who said by his chief of staff Hon. Tam Brisibe "This is important given that the flight successfully brought the Super Eagles to South Africa and returned without any problems."

"It is gratifying that the Super Eagles trained at Stephen Keshi Stadium before traveling to South Africa via Asaba Airport. They went to South Africa and qualified for Cameroon in 2019. " said the governor.

He added, "The most important thing was to qualify for Cameroon, and by God's grace we have qualified for AFCON and congratulate the Super Eagles for making Nigeria proud."

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), said he was thrilled that FIFA had approved the Stephen Keshi Stadium for the International Football Championship. He added that it is a pride for the Super Eagles to travel through Asaba International Airport.

"When it was announced yesterday (Saturday) that we would go on board and fly to Asaba, it gave me great pleasure. It shows that God has top priority in the Delta State. We qualified for AFCON and travel to Cameroon to make a big impact.
