2018 MG ZS

MG, which is owned by Chinese automaker SAIC, pointed to expansion into the electric car arena last year, and on Friday we saw the historic British brand launch its first electric car.

The car is an electric version of MG's existing ZS compact Crossover (pictured with gas propulsion) and was unveiled at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show, which is currently taking place in China.

The car is called eZS and right now MG is quiet in terms of details as the development continues. However, officials have pointed to an output of around 150 horsepower and a range of just over 200 miles on a single charge.

MG will purchase batteries for the eZS from China's CATL, the same company used by the BMW Group to supply batteries for future electric cars. CATL will build a new plant in Germany for the BMW deal.

Since MG is not present in the US, you should not expect the eZS to be seen on local soil. In fact, it can only be sold in China, as MG has not yet announced it will launch in another location.

MG first showed its electrification plans with the unveiling of the E-motion concept car a year ago. There was evidence that the sports car concept could go into productionbut you can already grab an electric MG sports car.
