Nigerian singer Olawale Ashimi, known as Brymo, said that musicians who "suddenly" leave their craft for politics are "thieves".

The singer explained this in an interview with Sahara TV at the recently completed Ake Books and Arts Festival 2018.

According to Brymo, musicians in the entertainment industry have many problems to solve and should focus on instead of "suddenly distracting music for politics."

His words: "I think it's a very difficult step in the sense that years have been invested in every industry. So you've been a musician for 10 to 15 years and suddenly you throw that off to become a politician and apply for a job. You are just a thief, because there are problems in the entertainment industry that you can participate in. Why do you have to run for public office? There are things you can do as a musician in your own music industry to make things better. If you can not do it better, how can you improve it in public office?

"I think everyone should stay on track, let musicians be musicians and politicians, let them all do their jobs, I've spent 15 years in music and I have no intention of throwing everything away for another career. This is my career, this Brymo, I think everyone should treat their music like that and leave politics to politicians. "

Brymo, who recently released his debut novel "Oriri's Plight," praised the late Afrobeats champion Fela Anikulapo Kuti as the greatest musician whose music was not appreciated until his death.

"Many of our parents were like" do not listen to music from Fela ". The government says, "do not go to the Republic of Kalakuta". Everyone was against him and now everyone says that he is the greatest. The same applies to us. You can not quantify what we are doing until it's done. When the next generation is here, they will say that these people did something great. At the moment the story is told.

"I do not think there is a comparison, because we had more of the most talented Nigerians than back then, there are many amazing, talented people, but we were able to show." Be brave like her? Not so much. But in terms of abilities, I think we've grown to last generation. But we have to show more buzz. We have to take the initiative and be musicians, "he said.
