A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo, Abuja, has ruled that the list of "looters" released by Information Minister Lai Mohammed in March this year is not a violation of the rights of those affected.

The presiding judge, Olukayode Adeniyi, who ruled on the lawsuit filed by Raymond Dokpesi, a leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), ruled that there were no merits. Dokpesi had previously filed a lawsuit against the federal government for abusing his fundamental human rights and adding his name to the list of looters, where he was accused of illegally receiving N2.1 billion from the state treasury.

While the media mogul demanded a public apology and payment of N500 million from Mohammed to defame him, the judge said that the Minister's disclosure of the alleged raider list on behalf of the federal government has no legal authority as a minister is neither the judge nor the prosecutor in the pending before the Federal Court criminal proceedings against Dokpesi.

However, Dokpesi was advised to remedy the situation by libel or slander if he felt hurt by the Minister's action. However, the defamation lawsuit filed by Dokpesi against Lai Mohammed was postponed to 9 November.
