The federal government says it will work with major organizations such as the Institute of Public Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to ensure rapid development of the country.

The President explained this when he received executive members of ICAN under the leadership of his president, Rasaq Jaiyeola, at the Abuja State House on Friday.

Buhari announced that his government will continue to review outdated laws that impede growth in many sectors to boost the efficiency of managing the national economy.

"Over the past three years, this government has worked hard to improve the transparency and efficiency of public sector financing through the Treasury Individual Account.

"We have also introduced policies that improve the business environment.

"We implemented projects that helped young entrepreneurs.

"We will continue to review obsolete laws that impede growth in many sectors," he said.

He explained that under the current circumstances, all hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigerians work towards an inclusive, diversified and sustainable future.

The President, the ICAN to the recently completed 48th Annual Congress of Accountants according to "Securing our common future: A collective responsibility & # 39 ;, noted that the communiqué addressed the conference on environmental issues facing the nation.

He said, "For all of us, it is clear that climate change and environmental issues are a major threat to the peace and prosperity of our nation and its citizens.

"In the Niger Delta region, man-made environmental problems have negatively impacted the livelihoods of local people, especially farmers and fishermen who have destroyed their livelihoods.

"Our assessments have shown that it will take decades to reverse this damage, but we've made a start, with or without international cooperation, we're starting to clean up our degraded areas, starting with Ogoni.

"In the North Central region, too, we are seeing a significant increase in herds, and this trend, which is replicating in many West and Central African countries, is a result of desertification."

Buhari said that the country has continued to observe unpredictable rain patterns that have led to significant flooding in the river communities.

He complained that these floods had destroyed hundreds of houses and farmland.

"As a Chartered Accountant, your knowledge of environmental and sustainability business practices is critical.

"They are responsible for ensuring that their customers prioritize environmental sustainability in their activities, both in the public and private sectors," he said.

The president, who thanked ICAN for his support and advice, said he would hire the Economic Management Team to review and address the institution's concerns about the implementation of its recommendations.

"Rest assured that we will continue to work with reputable institutions such as ICAN for the development of this nation," he said.

ICAN President Jaiyeola was pleased to note that the Buhari government has made significant progress in combating corruption and improving the economy.

He said: `"The government has made great strides in this direction, and the fight against corruption is at the forefront of President Muhammadu Buhari's presidency and is recognized around the world.

"We believe the government has tried and will continue to grow in that direction."

Jaiyeola said that ICAN has introduced some measures that would strengthen and sustain the fight against corruption.

"We have introduced a number of anti-corruption measures in our country in this country.

"We recently launched the ICAN Accountability Report, which assesses the practices of public financial management in Nigeria.

At the end of the day, this will introduce measures that will improve government and business performance and prevent block-grinding in the fight against corruption, "he added. (NAN)
