The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, NACOMYO, has received the first nominations from the newly established Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Ing. Kayode Fayemi, criticized.

The religious youth group said the nomination had gone awry and completely marginalized the Muslim community in the state of Ekiti.

The organization said this during a protest that took place Thursday in the Central Mosque, Ado Ekiti.

Nacomyo's coordinator in the state, Tajudeen Olutope Ahmed, pointed out that the exclusion of the Muslim from the first three appointments announced by the governor was "shocking and highly disturbing for all Muslims in the state".

Fayemi announced yesterday the appointment of Abiodun Oyebanji as secretary of the state government; Biodun Omoleye as Chief of Staff and Yinka Oyebode as Chief Press Officer.

NACOMYO said Muslims in the state make up about 40 percent of the population, adding that the governor received her full support by massively voting for him during governor polls.

They said, "The exclusion of Muslims from the entire membership of the major senior officials of this government is therefore worrying, unfair, reprehensible and unacceptable, and we see it as a calculated attempt to exclude Muslims from the fundamental aspect of the decision-making process in the Ekiti state.

"The exclusion of Muslims in this regard is a violation of the basic objectives and policies of state policy, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).

"The exclusion of Muslims from the main vocations of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi is an exception to the Nigerian motto as provided for in Section 15 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) rather than" unity and faith "Projecting Peace and Progress" The recent appointments of the government will provoke "disagreement, rebellion and backwardness".
