The calm that has prevailed since her return from last week in the Senate, yesterday was shaken.

Senator Godswill Akpabio called for the restoration and restructuring of the upper chamber – in line with the numerical strength of the parties. "The majority must always preside over the minority," he said.

He threatened to stop contributing in plenary unless his desired change was made.

Akpabio (Akwa Ibom Northwest) spoke at a press conference after yesterday's plenary session, during which he was temporarily excluded from the contributions of Senate Chairman Bukola Saraki.

Akpabio, who stepped down from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and resigned as a minority leader, said the Senate president should follow APR's PDP after Saraki's transfer.

He added that although the minority should have a say, the majority should find their way to peace.

The Senate, he stressed, must be properly constituted and senators must adhere to political parties.

"They can not allow ten senators to direct the affairs of 80 senators and expect peace to prevail," said Akpabio.

He continued, "On the other hand, when I go from the PDP to the APC, I think it's a very good move, and I'm glad I have a much bigger chance, directly with the government and not mine Voice to be heard from a party political point of view.

"If I'm part of the ruling party right now, the advice and contributions I'm going to make are not viewed with suspicion, but you'll know that I'm patriotically speaking, and that I want things to work better.

"I moved in the national interest, and I saw a sort of mild disorder in which many of my colleagues saw the garbage as a weapon against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

"I do not think we should start a government without supporting this government, and if the administration slips and Nigeria slides into anarchy, our children will suffer." I moved to stabilize the community.

"I moved from PDP to APC to make sure this government works before the election, not just to vote, it should be about Nigeria first, let others act in the national interest too.

"I did not just move like this, I was a (minority) leader in the Senate, I gave up my position to show that I was serious, let others who also have positions in the Senate, who also have a rug from one political party to another, also giving up their positions and following Godswill Akpabio.

"We have to restructure the Senate Behind my present day, my very good friend, excellent Senator Shittu, It was after the small noise in the Senate that he told me that he was now in the PDP and I said," Why are you sitting here? "

"Do not you think we need to restructure the Senate? PDP will sit on one side, APGA will sit where it should be, and the governing party, which is still the majority, will still sit where it is supposed to sit.

"Leadership should be restructured so that the majority can go their own way and the minority have their say, which is the practice in all modern democracies.

"You can not have a political party with 10 members, another with 80 members, and the 10 members will now take the lead.

Nigeria is no different We're leading a democracy That's what I meant when I said I would speak when the Senate is well restructured and reassembled. "

There was a turmoil during the plenary for more than 30 minutes.
