A brave Nigerian soldier identified as LCFL Nnaemeka Sunday Evoh was confirmed as one of the victims of a pipeline explosion that took place Friday in Osiyoma Local Government Area of ‚Äč‚ÄčAbia State.

He confirmed the development after visiting the explosion scenes in Umuaduru and Umuimo in Osioma LGA. Police chief Anthony Ogbizi said the explosion was due to the expiration of a pipeline that deports gasoline from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Abia.

"According to information from the NNPC warehouse manager in Aba, the spill came from a pipeline that was being serviced," he said.

"He said they were instructed to test the pipeline to verify their functionality, and when we visited the two communities, we learned that 14 people were found dead in Umuimo Village, while 10 died in the Umuduru community The victims, who have suffered various degrees of burns, are said to have slept in the incident, and were said to have been taken to nearby hospitals and traditional medical homes for treatment. "

Ogbizi said police and other state security agencies were investigating the plausible cause of the explosion.
