The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) urged the Federal Government to work towards the release of the helpers abducted by terrorists in March 2018.

A Sunday ICRC statement also called for "influential communities and individuals" to help ensure the release of workers before the deadline set by terrorists expires in less than 24 years Std.

The ICRC also appealed for mercy to the West African Provincial Group of the Islamic State (ISWAP).

The statement read: "The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is making an urgent public appeal to the Nigerian government and to communities and individuals who have affected the release of two dedicated medical workers abducted in northeastern Nigeria. Speed and urgency are critical : A deadline that could kill another nurse is less than 24 hours away.

"For the abductees of these abducted women, ISWAP: We urge you for mercy and urge you not to kill another innocent health worker who is helping the community in northeastern Nigeria.

"Hauwa Mohammed Liman worked in a hospital supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) when she was kidnapped on March 1 with Alice Loksha, a nurse who worked at a UNICEF-supported center."

Mamadou Sow, head of the ICRC mission in the Lake Chad basin, said: "Hauwa and Alice are medical workers who have decided to work in the violence-affected areas of Rann. The city's population has increased due to the conflict and most of the local health care workers have fled, and these women have provided indispensable and lifesaving services to thousands of people, displaced persons and residents, and they just wanted to help. "

Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa, who was abducted along with her colleagues Hauwa and Alice, was killed in September 2018 by her abductors.

The statement goes on to say: "The ICRC asks stakeholders to do their utmost to avoid repeating this devastating result, Leah Sharibu, a 15-year-old student, was taken away from her school in Dapchi in February in a separate kidnapping She is also being held by the same armed group and everything must be done to ensure that she too is released immediately and intact. "

Patricia Danzi, head of the ICRC mission in Africa, also appealed for her release: "We urge you to spare and release these women, they are a midwife, a nurse and a student, and like all abductees, they are not part of anyone They are daughters and sisters, one is a mother – women with their future before them, children to raise, and families to return ".
