Six policemen killed in IED blast

Six police officers were killed in an ambush with an improvised explosive device in the northern Burkese Faso city of Solle near the border with Mali, said AFP on Saturday.

"A police convoy was ambushed in Sölle late on Friday," a security source said. "The leading vehicle ran over a mine and six were killed."

The convoy came under fire and other police were injured, it said.

Another security source said that "at least" six policemen have died, adding that a search for the attackers in the area is under way.

Six soldiers were killed today in IED explosion

The attack came one day after six soldiers were killed in the east of the country in similar circumstances.

Burkina Faso has regularly experienced jihad attacks since the beginning of 2015, especially in the north and east of the country.

According to an official census released last month, such attacks have so far killed 118 people, of whom 70 were civilians.
