Ford Trucks F-Vision Future Truck Concept

Ford Trucks F-Vision Future Truck Concept

Ford is not known for semi-pressures around the world, but that could change soon. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Germany, Ford presented its F-Vision Future Truck concept on Thursday.

Ford Otosan, based in Turkey and the automaker's largest commercial vehicle production base, introduced the F-Vision as a self-propelled Tier 4 electric tractor. It is the company's first concept truck and focuses on a future where semi-trucks with lightweight construction and no emissions are needed.

The Concept Truck debuted together with the F-Max tractor at the IAA, which was awarded the title of International Truck of the Year in 2019.

ford However, the powertrain behind the F-Vision concept vehicle has not been described in detail. Nor has it provided estimated power or domain ratings.

Instead, Ford focused on the design of the Semi. The F-Vision was inspired by Marvel characters, the automaker said, and the way they change and adapt to environments. The motif is mainly found in the glass line, which moves downwards and enlarges the field of view for an operator in the cabin.

When the F-Vision operates in self-propelled mode, the glass line fits back into the bodywork to match the streamlined shape of the truck. The shape itself is very familiar compared to future semi-concepts We have seen from Tesla and others, although the big LED lights certainly mimic those sold in the US F series.

The adaptable nature of the Semi also comes with the front of the F-Vision. Ford said an "interactive front-end" can show different designs and communication methods, but did not go into more detail. The staple Ford oval is also missing in action for a backlit badge with the words "Ford".

The F-Vision is just that: a vision. It may, however, point to experimental elements that will reach future Ford trucks in other parts of the world.
