Popular actor Wale Akorede, 50, known in the vernacular as Okunnu, may have been in the film industry for more than two decades, but he would never forget the day he received his first salary as an actor.


Speaking to Saturday Beat, he said he was so happy the day he got 60 pounds after a movie role that he almost went crazy. The comedian told Saturday Beat that the money he got motivated him to focus more on his craft and make more effort to be the best.

He said, "The first time I got money for acting was in 1984, and I got 60 kobo." When I was given the money, I almost went crazy, I was very impressed and encouraged to do the job, currently earning I'm good for most of the roles I play.

Okunnu is known for his comic roles in Yoruba films, but the veteran said he did not feel trapped in such roles despite his roles in comic films.

"I do not feel stereotyped when I play such roles because I can still play a role, I've played all sorts of roles in movies, but the funny thing is that even if I play a serious role, people are still going for it of the stereotype, "he said with a smile.

Okunn also shared with Saturday Beat the reason why he would never stop playing. According to him, he acts through his veins, and despite the challenges of life, he can never feel depressed.
