Aston Martin announced on Wednesday the first specifications for its Rapide E electric sports sedan to be delivered by the end of 2019.

The vehicle is being developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, the technology offshoot of the Williams Formula One team. With development still ongoing, some specifications may change before production begins.

What we now know is that the Rapide E will have a pair of electric motors on the rear axle with a combined output of more than 601 hp and 700 lb-ft of instant torque. And the range should be about 200 miles.

The battery will have a capacity of 65 kilowatt hours and will contain more than 5,600 individual 18650-size lithium-ion cells. These are housed in a bespoke battery that fills the room where the gas-powered Rapide V-12, transmission and fuel tank normally sit. Throughout the development process, the development team has focused on achieving effective cooling of the batteries and motors to ensure consistent performance while implementing stringent weight objectives using light metal alloys and carbon composites. For example, the twin electric motors of the Rapide E will drive through a limited-slip differential that, in combination with revised spring and damper rates, should ensure dynamic eye-level performance with the V-12 powered Rapide.

The initial power estimates include a 0-60 mph time of less than 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Impressively, the car should also have enough overthrust to power from 50 to 70 mph in just 1.5 seconds , Aston Martin emphasizes that these numbers are not limited to a narrow window when the batteries are fully charged. The car is designed to handle a full lap on the Nürburgring without draining the battery. Aston Martin also wants the car to be repeatedly hard-accelerated and braked.
