Corvette Racing in Laguna Seca: Pole position for Gavin, Corvette No. 4

Magnussen qualifies as a third in the GTLM-leading C7.R

MONTEREY, California (September 8, 2018) – Oliver Gavin conquered the pole position on Saturday for the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category ahead of the America's Tire 250 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It was the first pole position on the track for Gavin, who will start just ahead of his teammate Jan Magnussen in the GTLM grid.

Gavin set a best time of 1: 22,700 (97,421mph) for his 22nd pole position in the IMSA in the # 4 Mobil 1 / SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. He and Tommy Milner are fourth in the GTLM Driver Championship with two more events and they won together in Monterey in 2012.

As a program, Corvette Racing has won seven times in Laguna Seca. The race on Sunday is the 20th start on the 1138-kilometer track near the Monterey Peninsula.

Magnussen, in the No. 3 Mobil 1 / SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, qualified third in the GTLM Championship-leading entry he shares with Antonio Garcia. The reigning GTLM co-champion scored a best time of 1: 22.806 (97.297 mph), 0.106 seconds behind Gavin.

Magnussen and Garcia lead the GTLM Driver Championship by four points and have won together in Monterey in 2013 and 2014. The Corvette No. 3 landed in six consecutive races in May on the podium.

The America's Tire 250 is set at 14:05. PT on Sunday with live TV coverage of FOX Sports 1. Streaming in-car footage with live audio coverage of training, qualifying and the IMSA Radio race is available on IMSA.com.

TITLE

OLIVER GAVIN, NR. 4 MOBILE 1 / SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM POLAND WINNER:

"It's always great to be in pole position here in Laguna Seca, many thanks to everyone at Corvette Racing and to the crew, it takes a great effort from everyone in the team to return to P1, I'm thrilled, but that's it just a small step on the way to what we want to achieve tomorrow, and that's a win, if the green flag falls tomorrow, it's all forgotten, we have a very good race car, obviously we've done well for qualifying. The Corvette C7.R was strong all year round, we had a great team, great strategies and pit stops, we just have to do it tomorrow, the competition is at an all-time high in GTLM and it's very satisfying to beat those guys real work is imminent tomorrow.

"It's nice to have this moment for the guys in our team, there's a nice little stuffing tomorrow to start the race, we'll push on the start like crazy and we'll work hard tonight to make sure everything is covered and we are prepared for the race. "

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBILE 1 / SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED THIRD IN GTLM:

"It was a good qualifying day for both cars and a great job for the Corvette # 4 to become pole, it's very close to the front and a great way to start the race, I half expected it to be a lot worse, but I think both cars have reached the top of the tire and made the best of it, let's see if we have a clean start and what we need to do in the championship.
"Because it's so close, there's no control in the race, it's about going and not making mistakes … driving a good race and the plan we've set ourselves, all you do is important: when you're in the pits, doing your pit stops … but I'm not worried about that, it's always been one of our strongest points on the team.
