To promote college sports in Nigeria, the Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL®) was launched, a competition created by PACE Sports & Entertainment Marketing Limited (PSEMLtd) and in partnership with Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) is led this year as the country's first organized college football league.

On Friday, July 20, football experts, lobbyists and administrators gathered alongside several brands and business leaders in the external ballroom of the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos to watch the draw of the 16 participating schools in the 2018 Football League in Nigeria from July 28th 2018 until 3 November 2018.

The Games are scheduled to take place between July and November, and the league will begin with 16 universities, which for reasons of closeness and effective administration are divided into the Coastal Conference (South) and the Sahel Conference (North).

The draws were conducted by Oleace Adeyemo, Chief Strategy Officer of PACE Sports and Entertainment Limited, and he was joined by former internationals Victor Agali, Friday Elaho, Festus Odini and Head Retail Sales of Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC, Mr. Obinna Lewis -Asonye, sponsors of the competition.

In his address, Mr. Adeyemo explained that for reasons of closeness and security, the eight universities of each conference were divided into two groups (A & B) and that the teams were randomly selected from 4 transparent bowls representing the 4 groups; Sahel A, Sahel B, Coast A and Coast B, to ensure that the draws are in line with global standards.

The excitement was felt by the guests, including the sports directors and head coaches of the participating institutions, by selecting the balls from each bowl. Friends became enemies, as the teams in each group had to compete against each other. When the official fixtures were unveiled, it became clear to everyone that the opening match starring would bring the Marines of Unilag and the Royals of Uniben into a battle for pride, fame and boast. Another outstanding fight of the first round is the titanic battle in the north between BUK Stallions and Udusok Sultans.

Meanwhile, a huge crowd of participants was thrilled when the colorful soccer jerseys were unveiled. A bold, fun and stylish student will love for the games.

HiFL® is recognized by the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) and supported by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The league is overseen by the National University Commission (NUC) and the Vice Chancellor Committee (CVC).
