Sokoto The State Muslim Pilgrim Relief Organization (SSMPWA) began on Wednesday with the capture of biometric data in the ongoing registration for 2018 Hajj.

The general director of SSMPWA, Shehu Dange, said in Sokoto that registration with pilgrims started from Gada Local Government Area.

Mr. Dange said that registration with pilgrims from the Wurno and Shagari districts would continue until all 23 local government areas of the state were covered.

He added that aspiring Muslim pilgrims must be physically present at each location of the exercise, adding that data has been allocated for each local government to facilitate the process.

He explained that the registration in accordance with the National Hajj commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Guidelines for welfare committees and agencies of pilgrims to ensure adequate arrangements for the conduct of the exercise.

The Director-General pointed out that the exercise was part of the preparations for this year's Hajj, adding that lectures on Hajj rituals and necessary government regulations had begun in all parts of the state.

He praised Governor Aminu Tambuwal for supporting the agency, saying that the agency worked with some NGOs, women, and religious groups to train pilgrims and other arrangements for the sacred journey.
