Edo State Deputy GovernorComrade Phillips Shuaibu narrowly escaped death from whiskers on Sunday when his convoy was involved in a car accident along the Benin-Agbor highway.

However, two people, the deputy governor's personal assistant and a police inspector attached to the security detail of the deputy governor, were unlucky when they suffered injuries.

Both men are currently fighting for their lives at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where they rushed to treatment.

The replacement car in the Vice Governor's convoy on the way from Asaba to the capital, Edo, allegedly slid off the road when the driver did not want to run into a police checkpoint.

According to his chief spokesman, Mr. Musa Ebhomiana, the accident occurred shortly after Abudu, the headquarters of the Orhionmwon City Council, at a checkpoint set up by a team of police officers.

Ebhomiana, who spoke in Benin yesterday, said the police had used a bad spot on the busy expressway to reach the checkpoint that crashed.

The spokesman said, "For the glory of God, no life has been lost in the crash except for the minor injuries sustained by the leader of the police force, an inspector and the personal assistant to the deputy governor, who were immediately treated as UBTH and necessary Controls brought. "
