Gray, blue, white and black tones proved to be the top color choices for the 2022 model year of automotive supplier BASF Coatings as the need to "stay real" with technological advances becomes reality

A collection of 65 global colors focuses on reconciling the pursuit of the digital age for perfection with human qualities. The collection is also intended to embody the profound change that the automotive market is combining with new forms of mobility.

Paul Czornij, head of the design department of BASF Coatings North America, said Automotive News that factors such as fashion and interior design trends and abstract factors such as societal moods influenced the supplier's latest selection.

The colors are created for model years four to five years in advance and are seen on vehicles as soon as US automakers decide which ones to use. [196592002] "In the future, colors will be affected by this balance between the increasingly digitalized world, where technology is throwing us into areas where it is difficult to see what could be real or what could be produced on a computer screen the coloring, and how this is offset by the human need – the need to have physical objects and the coloring of these physical objects, "said Czornij.

BASF's color palette combines technical advantages to support the reflectivity of lidar systems. for example and sensors, with visual aesthetics and visibility.

"We want to use … coating technology to create colors that offer the traditional visual aspects to cars, but also as technology increases to increase the functional aspects of these colors," Czornij said.

The "Keep it real" theme led the supplier to create three key colors, each marking a trend-changing gradient in different regions: Gray Ambivalence for the Asia-Pacific region; Atomium Sky for the North America region; and The Urbanist for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Other top North American colors in this year's report are Metal's Mettle, a dark gray; Kleur, a deep red; and Centripetal Blue, a deep, dark blue.

"It's a way to celebrate the advances in digital technology, but also to recognize the importance from a human standpoint that we also need the physical things that accompany the increasing digitization," said Czornij

The trend report of the paint supplier from last year described deep and not saturated blue shades as top shades, according to the company Zeitalter and a renewed need to connect with nature. Blue was expected to meet white and other neutrals among the car buyer picks. Czornij said some of these trends have shifted and some have continued this year.

BASF ranks in Ludwigshafen at # 21 of the Automotive News 2017 list of the world's top 100 providers with worldwide sales to automakers of $ 10.37 billion in its fiscal year.
