CARLISLE, PA – Confirmed for the annual event, which takes place May 18-20, at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, is a Jaguar XK120 made by former Hollywood legend Clark Gable , This Jaguar, one of at least four owned by Gable, was one of his favorites. Gable, the perfectionist he was, sent him to the late George Barris to customize and refine him. This is quite historical, because it is one of Georges first cars, which he had tailor-made under the name Barris.
Fast forward to 2018 and the car is now owned by the TV personality and the famous car lover Joseph Limongelli. Just arrived, the car was delivered from Europe, so that Limongelli could serve as the centerpiece of the Legends of Design Display – Jags and Astons.
As many of the Jaguars and Astons planned for the ad, this ride had its beginning in England. It was introduced by legendary Jaguar boss William Lyons at the 1951 London Motor Show to test the reaction to his first new post-war sports car. The "test car" was, to say the least, an overwhelming success, with demand from the roof for this ride being shown to the media at over 130 miles per hour
As cars of this kind sometimes do, it disappeared for many years, before it was found in Dallas, Texas with its pieces and parts strewn about multiple boxes and boxes. It has taken some time, but it has been restored to the specifications in Gables' possession. It has a flawless interior and retains many of the Barris elements and best of all, it will be on display for all in 2018 Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals.
