Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed will be one of the best in Nigerian society, witnessing the commissioning of various projects at Afe Babalola University, Ado -Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Projects to be launched next Monday at the eight-year-old Private University include: the 18m fixed dome planetarium, sophisticated telemedicine equipment, a state-of-the-art N2Million postgraduate building and dorm, and a state-of-the-art N1.5 Million social and management buildings.
Addressed to the news anchors of the event scheduled for May 2, founder of the university, Aare Afe Babalola, who described the ABUAD as a federal private university, stated that the institution, which in 2009 after its seven years as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, the pa students from all states of the Federation enjoyed.
Aare Babalola explained about the planetarium, which is considered the first of its kind in Africa with an astronomical observatory and one of the largest fixed planetariums in the world. With a special projector commissioned, will be the beginning of the academic study of space technology relieved at the institution.
"I will transform the planetarium into a tourism center in Nigeria, and especially the state of Ekiti, paying people to access a planetarium in Canada, America and Japan, why travel around the world to a planetarium? Seeing if we can pay less than what they pay to visit a planetarium, schoolchildren and people from near and far are coming to see what we do at ABUAD and they've seen a university run
"The problem with Nigerian universities is that they still train students in inherited syllables more than 60 years ago without adding anything.
"We've added three new curricula, such as mechatronics, human biology, and social justice, and our universities do not want to improve on everything they've inherited, and the planetarium is being imported from Florida USA," he said.
Also planned for the commission is the telemedicine equipment of the ABUAD Multi System Teaching Hospital with 400 beds, also in the fields of teleconsulting, telediagnosis and tele-management
According to the founder of the university, the state-of-the-art medical equipment supplied by donated to university partners, Aster DM Healthcare of Dubai will allow the partner in Dubai to join ABUAD in the provision of services through proxies.  Olukayode Akinlade said that the multi-system hospital, which is managed by world-class consultants and other internationally renowned professionals, will be broadcasting companies in the multi-system hospital, provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Olurotimi Sanya and hospital advisor  "The services available include: Accident and Emergency, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, C ommunity Medicine, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, Bronchoscopy, Arthroscopy, Bone Densitometer, Pet Scan, Nuclear medicine, echocardiography, ECG and treadmill testing, as well as functional testing (PFT) among several others.
Dr Akinlade on the solutions the medical facilities in a country like Nigeria will solve, noted that the new hospital was set up to to take care of special and complex cases and thereby reduce the incessant trips overseas n
Prof. Sanya added hospital has five special patient suites to treat, orthopedic surgery, brain, abdominal distraction, eye, nose and kidney and kidney transplants, saying that chronic health challenges that have led to preventable deaths are being treated in the hospital. Aare Babalola has stated that the university does not live up to its duties and responsibilities, and that the idea of doing business is not meant for anyone one of the barriers to growth in public land institutions in the country he said he had done right after ABUAD had learned great lessons and examples as the best form of the teacher as his guiding principles.
