Despite a larger SUV being added to the BMW model range in 2019 the next-generation BMW X5 unveiled this year will continue to accommodate seven people. A recent South Carolina spy photo shows a G05 X5 prototype with an optional third row bench.

The production of the F15 X5 is slated to be slotted in July 2018 at the BMW plant Spartanburg with the new model shortly thereafter to become production. This also means that the X5 skips the traditional BMW half-cycle update and finishes its production five years after its life cycle, making it one of the shorter production times of modern BMWs.

The overall proportions and shape of the upcoming X5 remain the same, for BMW has not had a completely new design idiom for years, but on closer inspection, larger kidney grids can be seen sitting upright , similar to the Concept X7 . The side view has a steeper roofline compared to the current generation X5 while the two character lines running from back to front emphasize the dynamics of the car.

The rear was also inspired more sportiness with the same proportions that have made the X5 a popular choice among SUV enthusiasts.

The model range remains largely the same. The sDrive35i and its four-wheel brother, the xDrive35i, will be 40i versions as they get the new 320cc B58 3-liter straight-six. The same name change also applies to diesel versions. Of course, the [xxxdrive40ePlug-in-Hybrid will continue to be offered, as will the V8 option in the form of the xDrive50i.
