In the fight against the 19459009 Ford F-150
Eight different variants will be available, including the new Silverado LT Trailboss. The off-road model is based on the Z71 package and includes a two-inch suspension lift, a limited slip differential and underride protection plates. The truck features Rancho shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels with Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires.
Another new addition is the Silverado RST, which is based on the LT variant and gives the truck a "street appearance". Chevrolet says the model has LED lighting units and up to 22-inch alloy wheels.
While the exterior design is a bit of an aberration, the cabin should be immediately recognizable to owners of the last generation pickup. Chevrolet says the cabin was "heavily influenced by customer feedback" and offers an additional three-inch rear seat leg freedom in twin-cab variants. The car also features new bottom bracket options, including two 10-liter containers integrated into the second-row seat backrests and a 24-liter storage compartment under the rear seats.
The Silverado is 41 millimeters longer than its predecessor model drives on a wheelbase that has grown by up to 3.9 inches (100 mm). Nevertheless, the weight of the truck has been reduced by up to 204 kg through the use of lightweight materials such as aluminum. The latter material is used on the doors, bonnet and tailgate, and this contributes to the car body weighing 40 kg less than before.
The weight saving extends to the Silverado's packed steel frame, which also weighs 88 pounds (40 kg) lighter, although the torsional rigidity was increased by 10 percent. Further weight savings result from the suspension with upper links made of aluminum forged aluminum and a rear axle rear axle with carbon composite springs of the second stage in LT variants.
The Silverado will be available from 2019 with six different engine and transmission combinations. Chevrolet was secretive on details, but confirmed options will include a new 5.3 and 6.2-liter V8 as well as a 3.0-liter Duramax six-cylinder turbodiesel. GM Vice President Mark Reuss said at the press conference, "I will not go into the numbers today, but some of our competitors have given numbers on their diesels, and let's just say that I'm confident we'll have that Diesel with the best performance in this segment. "This is a clear attitude at Ford, which has recently released its
On the transmission side of the equation, GM confirmed the 3.0-liter diesel and 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine will come with a completely new 10-speed automatic transmission as well as a start / stop system. The V8s also have a dynamic fuel management system that can disable up to seven cylinders to optimize fuel efficiency.
